The 501st Legion is an all-volunteer organization formed for the express purpose of bringing together costume enthusiasts under a collective identity within which to operate. The Legion seeks to promote interest in Star Wars through the building and wearing of quality costumes, and to facilitate the use of these costumes for Star Wars-related events as well as contributions to the local community through costumed charity and volunteer work.
In September of 2012 I finally had my Return of the Jedi Boba Fett costume approved by the Canadian Garrison of the 501st. It was a tremendous amount of work getting the costume up to spec, but a rewarding accomplishment. Since joining the 501st I have attended a number of troops where the group makes public appearances and collects donations for various charities.
It has been a fantastic experience shared with incredible people. Every member of the 501st attends these functions not only for fun and to share their love of the Star Wars universe, but more importantly, to bring smiles to the faces of the children (and adults) who attend.
While the 501st was initially founded to unite costumers with a penchant for Star Wars villainy, one of our real-world missions is to bring good to our communities through volunteer charity work. The 501st is always looking for opportunities to brighten the lives of the less fortunate and to bring awareness to positive causes on both a local and global scale.
Although we do not charge a fee for appearances (public or private), we enthusiastically welcome donations made to a charitable organization in the name of the 501st Legion. If you do not have a charity of choice, please ask the participating local 501st members for their favorite cause.
I’m currently in the final stages of putting together my 2nd costume.. a Season 4 Animated Series Commander Wolffe.
